C-View--the Lounge on the Rooftop of the MileNorth Chicago Hotel's 29th floor--offers incredible views of the Chicago Skyline. CH Distillery was born from a love of drinking great spirits and the science of making them. CH stands for Carbon and Hydrogen, the fundamental compounds in alcohol. CH also stands for Chicago. The Hopleaf gets its name from a beer advertised outside taverns in Malta, the home country of proprietor.  But the Hopleaf draws its inspiration, and its drafts, from Belgium.

Mother Too is a mega sports bar with enough screens - the big, flat kind and regular kind - to dazzle your eyeballs and overdose your senses with all sorts of games, including those all-girl soccer competitions played on sandy Florida beaches (we say no more). And all of this viewing comes with great food from burgers and fries to deliciously prepared Mexican dishes.

The Old Town Ale House was established in 1958 by a penurious entrepreneur named E.J. Vangelder. He got the idea for the bar from a San Francisco saloon called Vesuvios which was located in North Beach. Vangelder was good at building bars and hiring bartenders. He was bad at customer relations and eventually sold the bar to a poor slob name Joe Diaz. Diaz immediately ran the bar into the ground and sold it in 1970 to a bizarre group of Rush Street eccentrics, one of whom was my friend, Art Klug. (There is a lot more to this story, which means that you have to drop in for a visit.)

Owen & Engine is based on a simple idea of offering rustic British-inspired comfort food with real ales and a carefully crafted beverage program. Trends are unimportant; quality is key. Our meats come from animals humanely raised and without growth hormones or antibiotics. We purchase from the best farms and artisans, and the Haddock, for the fish and chips, is flown in daily from Georges Bank in the North Atlantic.

Rootstock Wine & Beer Bar is a labor of love from 3 former Webster Wine Bar employees who decided to open a small space in Humboldt Park. Our focus is on wine and beer of small production with an emphasis on sustainable farming practices. Chef Duncan Biddulph supports local farmers, hormone free meats and seasonal produce as often as possible.
