Pho Xe Tang - Tank Restaurant

Pho Xe Tang,  dining room features several big round tables for easy sharing.  The large Vietnamese and Chinese menu is served all day, and includes best-seller appetizers like banh xeo, Vietnamese crispy pancakes with shrimp, pork, beans sprouts, lettuce and mint, and the special appetizer combo of shrimp, pork skin and egg rolls with a shrimp cake, steamed rice noodles and house-made lemon fish sauce. Pho (Vietnamese noodle soup) is popular anytime  the hearty beef broth simmers for hours before being strained over flat noodles.

Rickshaw Republic is in a cozy yet modern space on Lincoln Ave. Their menu features typical dishes from the various Indonesian islands. The menu was created by the Setiawan family, native Indonesians who have thankfully decided to bestow their rich culinary culture on us lucky Chicagoans!
Rickshaw is BYOB, and I think beer pairs just fine with this Indonesian style street food.

Consistently serving up some of the best Chinese and Japanese food in the area. Their Country Style Tofu is so light and fluffy you'll think you've died and gone to heaven. Their fried rice is always outstanding and they will make sushi rolls to order.

Shui Wah Chinese Cuisine

The Essentials of Chinatown: A La Carte Dim Sum Cramped quarters and long lines don't keep the mostly Chinese families away from this bright one-room restaurant off the Market Square. Round and square tables leave only inches of walking space for the harried servers carrying steaming bamboo baskets filled with dumplings, crepes and rolls.

Star of Siam

Located just off of Michigan Avenue, is a must for anyone who loves Thai. The space is very open, with red brick and exposed pipes, which are painted red to match the brick. The color scheme is carried through in the red cushions and colorful wall hangings. This is not your usual place to go for Thai food, this locale serves a standard Thai Menu in an urban warehouse setting.

Sunda

The restaurant’s name is a nod to the Sunda Shelf, a Southest Asian Landmass, and incorporates modern takes on dishes from throughout the region. A large chunk of the lineup is devoted to China and Japan, but fare from other countries, including Cambodia, Vietnam and Thailand, makes an appearance too. Expect new Asian dishes such as Malay-style Chilean Sea Bass, Crab-crusted Ahi Tuna with Japanese hot mustard-soy glaze, pork shank confit with garlic-foie gras gravy and watercress salad, and a couple of Asian-inspired noodle dishes.


Sushi Samba Rio
