General Info

This is where it all began! This is where pizza was Americanized into a meal, rather than a delicate thin slice of something intended to just tickle the taste buds. The year was 1943 and a Chicagoan, Ike Sewell, asked himself, “Why should pizza be just a delicacy? So he took several authentic Italian recipes, added lots of meat, spices, vegetables and sauce, and then surrounded them with a thick, golden crust. He threw open the door to his new restaurant, Pizzeria Uno, and there was a stampede. This, say the restaurant reviewers, is “Chicago Style Pizza” and the name caught on. It’s even on menus in Rome.

So enjoy! It is a meal – two thick slices will probably fill you up. It’s reasonably priced. And little Pizzeria Uno is a cozy, comfortable place where you can relax and try what Chicagoans truly believe is one of “The Ten Wonders Of The World.”
