General Info

The Goodman is a name synonymous with world class theatre, is the kind of place where familiar faces show up on stage, and is where memorable performances will light up your night. Many of the actors you see in films, on television and on Broadway have had their start on the Goodman stage. Many have not only launched but have sustained a career in the City. The Goodman got started in 1925 at the Art Institute of Chicago, when the parents of writer Kenneth Sawyer Goodman, gave $350,000 to begin a drama school when he passed away. More than 80 years later, the Goodman was rebuilt at 170 North Dearborn, the old site of the Selwyn and Harris Theatres, in the area of town known as the Loop Theatre District. The facades of both venues were preserved to keep the wonderful Greek statues of the Gods and Goddesses of Drama standing for all to see.
