Pullman Historic District
The model industrial town of Pullman, Illinois had its beginning on May 26, 1880, in the open prairie. This town was the physical expression of an idea born and nurtured in the mind of George M. Pullman, President of Pullman's Palace Car Company.
He decided to develop a model community, a total environment, superior to that available to the working class elsewhere. By so doing, he hoped to avoid strikes, attract the most skilled workers and attain greater productivity as a result of the better health, environment and spirit of his employees.

Tall Ship Windy
The WINDY’s have been a dream of Capt. Bob Marthai for many years. He had hoped to sail out of historic Charleston S. C. where he had operated his three masted schooner PRIDE for several years, but had been unable to find local dock-age for a ship of the size of WINDY. At a meeting of the American Sail Training Association, he was invited to consider Chicago as an alternative location. After a year of negotiations with the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority, he began tours on the Windy for Chicago in 2001.
